FASTag is an Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system that is currently in use, in India to collect tolls in National and State Highways. FASTag is based on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. The RFID tag is registered for a vehicle, and affixed on the windshield of the vehicle. When the the vehicle passes through the toll, the RFID sensor in the toll plaza, reads the RFID tag on the vehicle, and deducts the toll amount automatically. Payment of tolls is much easier using FASTag. To promote the use of FASTag in vehicles, the Govt. of India, along with NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) and IHMCL (Indian Highways Management Corporation Ltd.) offers a 5% discount on the toll amount paid through FASTag. FASTag is presently offered to everyone, through the banks.
