Promoted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Indian Highways Management Corporation Limited (IHMCL) along with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has been mandated to implement the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme in India, under the brand name "FASTag". For this purpose, about 20+ banks have been authorized to provide FASTags through its bank branches, vehicle dealer showrooms and at Point of Sale centers (POS) in National Highways Toll Plazas. FASTags are currently operational in about 480+ National Highway Toll Plazas and select State Highway Toll Plazas.

The FASTags provided by the banks are customized for the particular bank. It is made available through its bank branches and its Direct Sales Agents (DSA's) and Sales Channel Partners. At the time of issuing the FASTag, a customer KYC is done.

The FASTags provided by IHMCL are bank neutral FASTags. The FASTag can be linked to the customer's bank account directly and hence no additional KYC is required. IHMCL is launching two mobile applications MyFASTag and IHMCLPOS. Through these apps, the customers will be able to link their FASTag with their preferred bank account, and recharge the FASTags through UPI platfrom. Since the recharges can be done through UPI, the customer will be able to recharge from any bank account/wallet.

The IHMCL FASTag is currently available only with select banks from the list of certified banks. The IHMCL FASTags are avaialble in select petrol pumps from the Oil Marketing Companies - Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and through Common Service Centers (CSC's).
